Texas isn't San Jose. It would be a multimillion house in California.
Akemi Nishimura
56:40
For all of you, is Baby Metal one of Heavy Metal Music? I am very interesting about that.
Joe Diaz
56:50
+1 Paul
Joe Diaz
57:00
Akemi, yes in my book

...how is this the first Kerry King quote in this course?... LOL
Joe Diaz
59:00
Lol, check the recordings, Hell :D
Ryan Deame
59:15
Kerry King is jealous of Joe's hair.
Akemi Nishimura
59:31
Very Interesting. Japanese have different views towards them. It is kind like diversity towards determination factor to choose music. Perhaps, westerners prioritize sounds, rhythm when they choose music. This is my research in 2022.
Joe Diaz
59:33
We don't talk about that
Eric Schwartz
01:01:26
So cool! I'd read that study!
Joe Diaz
01:01:36
This is an interesting metric lol
Hell Hammer
01:02:10

Joe Diaz
01:04:54
Hahaha, same wavelength Sym
Ryan Deame
01:06:18
There's a band named Hoth that is real good.
Frank Liu
01:07:42
how involved with your local scenes are you as time passes and as you move around the country?
Ryan Deame
01:10:50
Eskimo Cowboy
Daniel Toner
01:10:52
The session last year on metal composed by AIs definitely stretched the limit. Anything new on that front?
Ryan Deame
01:11:04
Eskimo Callboy*
CHRISTOPHER FLOYD
01:11:45
as someone who is pretty interested in electronic and generative music, trust me when i say that all of those concerns are very much addressed! it surprised me too :)
Eric Schwartz
01:14:49
I'd argue that music is sound organized in time, whether a composer organizes it or a computer. :)
Jeff Pearlin
01:15:21
Very true, but what’s the inspiration behind the art?
Eric Schwartz
01:16:35
It is, if you have an aesthetic experience to the sound of the dog or the jackhammer. It is the organization that makes it music.
Joe Diaz
01:17:12
Haha, when I run activities about music and sonic art, it always ends up here. I love it
Eric Schwartz
01:17:19
Noise is unwanted sound, but as long as someone "wants it" it is music.
Eric Schwartz
01:17:57
Amen!
Symmetry (they/them)
01:18:26
not related to metal, but there’s a lot of skill and effort that goes into electronic music. a big part of it is essentially composing. just like Bach or Mozart wrote music for others to play, EDM producers write music for a computer to play. i’ve watch my brother work on music before, he manually manipulates sine waves by changing the shape of the harmonics to make sounds completely from scratch that haven’t existed before. it’s fascinating
Joe Diaz
01:19:01
Totally agree Sym! Almost a completely different skill set in many ways! Still music
Eric Schwartz
01:19:43
We had to study electronic synthesis when I was a composition undergrad. A different skill set indeed (but definitely related).
CHRISTOPHER FLOYD
01:19:51
there's also a whole cultural issue of how things get disseminated, sadly
CHRISTOPHER FLOYD
01:20:12
there isn't a 'canon' to refer to now, as much as there was in the 80s/90s
Eric Schwartz
01:20:39
Can anyone suggest a "great" deathcore band? I have yet to find one I like.
Ryan Deame
01:21:04
Carnifex, Lorna Shore, Thy Art is Murder
Eric Schwartz
01:21:20
Awesome. Thanks! Will look into them.
Ryan Deame
01:22:22
New Korn is really good.
Symmetry (they/them)
01:22:50
i feel like metalcore gets a bad rap because of a few bands in particular who are super cringe-y, but metalcore as a whole actually has as nearly as many subgenres as metal, and a lot of them sound almost nothing like each other. there’s some really amazing, powerful, raw, heavy stuff out there in the genre, something for everyone. i didn’t get into metalcore until my early 20s, and i’m so glad i discovered
Symmetry (they/them)
01:23:31
it*
Eric Schwartz
01:23:31
I mean, Converge is like the best band ever, and they are essentially metalcore.
Symmetry (they/them)
01:23:53
Converge is also a local band!! (to the boston area, i mean)
Eric Schwartz
01:24:03
Right!
Ryan Deame
01:24:23
There's a lot of good Christian metalcore. It's like a thing.
Symmetry (they/them)
01:25:21
i like progressive metalcore
Symmetry (they/them)
01:25:27

Joe Diaz
01:27:41

Hell Hammer
01:27:59
maybe a new Metal 101 west coast
Joe Diaz
01:28:00
Hell yeah Fabio!
Eric Schwartz
